Cooperation Agreement signed between ADSC and ADEC to strengthen school sports competitions

Abu Dhabi:  In a move to consolidate strategic partnerships between governmental entities in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) and the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) signed a cooperation agreement aiming to enhance sport activities in the schools of the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The signing of the agreement was based on the directives of General His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, to develop school curriculums and school sport activities by adopting the latest international standards and criteria in this respect.
The conference was attended by Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General of Dhabi Education Council, and Mohammad Ibrahim Al Mahmood, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
The signing of the agreement was also based on the keenness of His Highness Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs, and the Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Education Council, to develop the education process in the schools of Abu Dhabi.
“A healthy mind is a healthy body,” H.E. Dr. Al Khaili. “As part of ADEC’s 10 Year Strategic Plan, it is one of our priorities to provide schools with all the facilities that meet various needs of students, so that our students would have the chance to be more creative and participate effectively in international competitions. This includes proper sports facilities and sports equipment,” he added.
Based on the agreement, a 7-person committee, 4 from ADEC; 3 from ADSC, will be formed to be in charge of implementing the articles and conditions of this agreement.
As stated in the agreement; the first party (ADEC) and the second party (ADSC), both will work to manage, support, and develop the interschool sports competitions that are/will be held in the schools of the 3 educational zones of the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The objective of these interschool sport competitions is to spread the awareness about the importance of sports; to enhance physical activities of students, motivate them to adopt sport practicing as a lifestyle with the aim to improve their health and to combat some types of diseases that happen due to not exerting any kind of physical activities.
These competitions will also motivate Abu Dhabi schools’ students to compete fairly, enhance their skills and talents, and give them the chance to join professional and elite sports centers and clubs.
Based on the articles of the agreement as well, ADSC will encourage and support school students to participate in local and international sports activities and events that will be organized by ADSC. ADSC will also provide any kind of technical support required to develop and to improve the interschool sports competitions. It will also provide gifts and rewards to motivate the competing students to be ambitious enough to accomplish the targeted achievements.
In the same manner, ADEC will allow school teachers to have the required training courses in order to qualify them to participate in the organizing and administering of the interschool sports competitions.
As the agreement reads, ADSC will assist the process of composing sport teams from talented athlete students, work to develop their skills and talents through the help of prominent international expert trainers and coaches, with the objective to motivate such talented students to contribute greatly to developing our country, as they themselves will be the seeds that will grow in specialized associations and federation in the types of sport they excel at.
ADSC General Secretary, Mohammad Ibrahim Al Mahmood commented on this agreement saying: “We will always look ahead and work hard to implement the directives of our wise leadership in order to achieve the required ambitions. This agreement is very pivotal as it aims to develop sports activities in the schools of the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The agreement will help us to achieve some of the objectives of the government Abu Dhabi as stated in the strategic plan of the government of Abu Dhabi in terms of sports development.”

H.E. Dr. Al Khaili pointed out that some of the initiatives, programs and projects launched by ADEC to enhance students’ personal skills in several creative ways by nurturing their interests and providing them with the right skills & experience that will help achieve their academic and career goals. Jiu Jitsu, “the Brazilian Wrestling” is considered among these projects that were introduced to G6-8 students. A number of 11,000 students of Abu Dhabi schools have joined this program, including 36 boy schools and 6 girl schools.

Another project is Al-Shaheen, targeting high school students and aims at providing them with the necessary life and personal skills, encourage teamwork, volunteering activities, helping others and enhance leadership and problem solving skills.
